May 27, 2015 New Baby Bottle Mimics Human Breast and Wins Gold Edison Award Some of the most successful products on the market mimic the natural world. The Bare¨ Baby Bottle is destined for that kind of success. Breast-fed babies, in particular, have two issues with traditional baby bottles One of the issues for breast-fed babies is that drinking from traditional baby bottles can cause pain and digestive issues for small babies, when babies gulp air with the formula or milk. Moreover, the standard nipples allow babies to suck the milk faster than from a real breast, so the child begins to favor the easy access over the real breast. By mimicking the human breast, inventor Priska Diaz, CEO of Bittylab, has found a way to prevent the "tummy pains that keep little onesÑand their parentsÑup at night". Proprietary material solved the nipple issue; a unique bottle design, the other Using a proprietary design in the rubber nipples solved the other issue. "The nipples on the Bare bottle, called 'perfe-latch,' are very short. The suction required promotes an effective "latch", just like with breastfeeding," Diaz explains. "When baby initiates suction, the short tip extends inside the mouth to reach the soft palate. And it adapts to suction, so baby controls the amount of milk and the pace at which he would normally drink." Bare's syringe-like technology features an Air-plug¨ (a proprietary material and design) creates a watertight and airtight seal that moves inside the bottle to deliver air-free milk and reduce air-ingestion. An independent trial confirmed success of the product "In an independent trial, we found that babies with diagnosed acid reflux and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) showed up to 95 percent symptom improvement after using Bare for a couple days," says Diaz. Yet another innovation associated with the product line Already a commercial success after introducing the line, Diaz received numerous inquiries from less-advantaged mothers wanting to have the product. She created a unique affiliate program that allows all mothers to earn a commission for recommending the product to other new moms who buy it. Commissions are deposited automatically into the moms' PayPal¨ accounts.
Biomimicry and innovation---a winning combination This unique program, together with a unique product line is a winning combination for Bittylab, recent winners of an Edison¨ Gold Award for Innovation. Expect to see numerous products that mimic nature to solve human issues. The field of Biomimicry is destined to grow rapidly in the months and years to come. ### For more information, contact Dana King at Bittylab, 646 389 9496, dana@bittylab.com.
